Robert “Blaze” Bayley has been very quiet since his return this January. At the Royal Rumble tonight he breaks his silence as he takes his former rival in Europe, the current PWA Heavyweight Champion Sheamus O'Shaunessy. Yes it is true, in his very first match back in the PWA he has the chance to re-win the PWA Title, BUT a special stipulation is in effect. If Bayley loses the match, his new 3 year contact with the PWA will declared invalid. ...and no he can’t just re-sign a new deal or move to with WCW if he loses.
Bayley a former WWA World Heavyweight Champion and was also the very last PWA World Heavyweight Champion. He got his start in the PWA in 1996 after beginning his wrestling carrier in the IPW teaming with his childhood friend and current superstar Steve “Danger” Elliott in Europe. He became one the PWA’s top stars. He also had a very popular run in WCW.
Bayley left the PWA in 2004 after a dispute with then PWA President Vince McMahan and returned to the IPW winning the WWA European Title on several occasions and fighting a bloody feud with Kai Hanson for over a year. In mid-2007 Bayley signed a short term deal with NWA TNA wrestling. Bayley would return to IPW in 2008 where would feud with then WWA Europe star Sheamus O'Shaunessy before taking a break from wrestling in 2009.
With the exit of Vince McMahon, Bayley called new President Howard Brody, eager for a return to the PWA. He was awarded a three year multi-million dollar contact…which is on the line tonight at Royal Rumble.
